Do I need to change my phone system to get voice biometrics?

Short answer: no. The phone system you already own is almost certainly fine.

The short answer

No. You do not need to replace your phone system, switch contact center platforms, or migrate to a specific vendor’s software to get voice biometrics on your calls. That belief is common, and it usually traces back to how voice biometrics gets sold. Most of the well-known options are bundled inside a particular platform or sold direct with a large contract minimum, so it looks like the only way in is to adopt that platform or clear that minimum. Confirm works differently. Confirm sits at the network level in the call path, so it authenticates callers regardless of which phone system you run. There is nothing to rip out and nothing to install on your phone system.

Where the misconception comes from

Voice biometrics is real technology with real results, but the way it reaches the market makes it look tied to specific platforms. Three examples show the pattern.

“We’d have to move to Eltropy.” In June 2026, Eltropy expanded its authentication ecosystem to include Pindrop alongside Illuma and IDgo. That is a good thing for Eltropy customers. But it also creates an impression: if you want Pindrop’s voice biometrics through Eltropy, you need to be running Eltropy’s platform. An institution that already has a contact center it likes now thinks the price of admission is a platform migration.

“We’d have to use Five9’s native integration.” In November 2024, Five9 and Pindrop announced a native integration delivered through SIPREC, with pre-built tasks in the Five9 IVA and a connector on the Five9 agent desktop. Again, useful for Five9 customers. But if you are not on Five9, this reads as a reason you would need to become a Five9 customer to get the same protection.

“We’d have to go direct to Pindrop.” The third assumption is that you skip the platforms and buy from Pindrop directly. Pindrop’s direct model is built for the largest banks, insurers, and healthcare networks, and it carries contract minimums sized for those institutions. For most credit unions and community banks, those minimums are the real barrier, not the technology.

Each of these is a real path for the right institution. The problem is that all three make voice biometrics look like something you can only reach by changing what you already run or by writing a very large check.

Why platform-bundled voice biometrics ties you down

When voice biometrics lives inside a contact center platform, the biometrics and the platform become a package deal. That has consequences.

  • You are locked to the platform. If you ever want to change contact center vendors, you are also changing your fraud and authentication stack at the same time, which makes the migration bigger and riskier.
  • You inherit the platform’s integration work. A native integration still has to be configured, tested, and maintained on your side. Connectors get versioned, IVA flows get rebuilt, and someone on your team owns keeping it all working.
  • You are limited to what the platform exposes. The biometric capability you get is whatever the platform chose to surface, on the platform’s timeline, not necessarily the full capability of the underlying engine.

None of this is a knock on Eltropy or Five9. If you are already committed to one of those platforms, an integration inside it can be a fine way to go. The issue is for everyone else, which is most institutions, who do not want their choice of phone system dictated by their choice of fraud tool.

  • Go directly to Pindrop and meet Pindrop’s contract minimums, which are built for the largest institutions and are substantial for a credit union or community bank.
  • Go through Confirm and get the same underlying Pindrop technology without those minimums, delivered at pricing tied to your call volume rather than to an enterprise floor.

For the large majority of credit unions and community banks, the minimums are the deciding factor. Confirm exists to remove that barrier, which is a separate benefit from the phone-system point but often shows up in the same conversation. You are not choosing a lesser technology to avoid the minimums. It is the same engine, reached through a partner whose entire business is this segment.

What this means in practice

If you already have a contact center platform you are happy with, keep it. Adding voice biometrics through Confirm does not touch it. If you are unhappy with your platform and planning to change it anyway, that is a separate decision you can make on its own merits, because your authentication layer will not be caught up in the migration either way.
